Applying to Hult The parent perspective
Going to university can be a daunting prospectââ¬ânot only for the students who are beginning a brand-new chapter of their life, but also for the parents of those students.à Here at Hult, we value the vital role parents and guardians play at all stages of students school life. As a parent, you may have many questions before and during the application process. This is why weve spoken to some parents who have gone through the application process with their child, and asked them questions about their experience of becoming a Hult parent. Kailashà Ramchandani Nationality: Filipino/Indian Kailash and his son How did youà know Hult was the rightà choice for your son? There were a number of things that confirmed Hult was the right place: we wanted him to experience something new and disruptive to what heââ¬â¢s used to, which Hult could provide. We looked at many schools in many cities, but Hult stood out to us with the multiple location options. We chose Hult and didnââ¬â¢t regret it! What research did you do before choosing Hult? The enrolment advisor gave us a lot of helpful information and links to articles about things such as career statistics, accommodation, and what life would be like in each city. We also found a lot of information on the website and blog including student stories about the student lifestyle. Dont be afraid of letting your child study away from home. My child adapted surprisingly quickly to his new environment. What advice would you give to a parent whose child was applying to Hult? Apply as soon as possible as itââ¬â¢s not something you want to rush in the last minute. Iââ¬â¢d also say to not be afraid of letting your child study away from home. My child adapted surprisingly quickly to his new environment and has received support from Hult when needed. Evelyne Aguilera Nationality: French Evelyne and her family How would you describe your sonââ¬â¢s experience at Hult so far? He is enjoying the practical learning approach and has had the chance to work with real companies. He is so focused on his studies and is loving being a student in the city of London. Its easy to worry about your child, but by setting aside your own worries and encouraging them gives them an opportunity to gain knowledge that they can apply to their future. How did you know that Hult was the right school for your son? My son was looking at several schools abroad, but he liked the practical aspect of Hult. He liked the practical approach, the teaching style, and the fact that he could rotate to cities like Boston and San Francisco. I appreciated the way I was connected with the parents of other Hult students, which was a very personal touch. What advice would you give to a parent whose child is applying to Hult? Iââ¬â¢d say that itââ¬â¢s important to check in advance with the enrollment advisors what is needed for the application process so you have time to get organized and prepare the necessary documents. Donââ¬â¢t be afraid of your child moving away ââ¬â Hult really made my son feel at home. Nadine Moukarzel Nationality: Lebanese Nadine and her daughter What do you know about Hultââ¬â¢s teaching approach? My daughter talks about the great teaching at Hult and how there is a huge focus on the students. She is not afraid to ask questions and loves the teamwork and workshops that she takes part in during class. She was very shy before going to Hult, but Hultââ¬â¢s style of learning has allowed her to become more confident in herself. The campus visit was a game changerââ¬âthis was when we knew Hult was the right choice. How did you know Hult was the right choice for your daughter? My daughter was considering other schools, before she made a visit to one of Hultââ¬â¢s campuses. This visit was a massive game changer as she got to see the school, meet the staff, and was made to feel part of the Hult family. This was when we knew Hult was the right choice. What advice would you give to a parent whose child is applying to Hult? As a parent, itââ¬â¢s easy to worry about your child, but by setting aside your own worries and encouraging them to study at a school like Hult gives them an opportunity to share ideas, learn about different cultures, and gain knowledge to apply to their future. Iââ¬â¢d say the best thing you can do is to encourage and support your child during their exciting new adventure. Lia Armelin Nationality: Brazilian Lia and her family How would you describe Hultââ¬â¢s support when it came to the visa process? We received a lot of support and the process was made easy. It was a great learning experience for my son to be involved in the process, and he was supported by the Hult team every step of the way. It can be difficult to see your child move away from home, but they are taken care of and supported at Hult. How did you know that Hult was the right school for your son? My son is very independent and enjoys new challenges, so we knew Hult would be a good fit. We attended a Hult event before he accepted his place, which gave him an insight into what life would be like at Hult. After that, he decided to study at Hultââ¬âit was the right decision then, and still is! What advice would you give to a parent whose child is applying to Hult? I think its important to see for yourself how welcoming Hult is, so Id recommend visiting a campus. Both the staff and students are friendly and warm, and my son feels so comfortable in the environment that he feels he can ask everyone including the Dean for advice. It can be difficult to see your child move away from home, but they are taken care of and supported at Hult. I learned a lot about myself and how I deal with being out of my comfort zone. I learned both soft and hard skills, from how to work in very diverse teams to key accounting metrics and strategy. I was surprised by how weak I was at certain tasks in English or how strong I actually was in other areas. Hult gave me opportunities to try new things and meet people from places I never thought I would have friends. . My internship experiences gave me the chance to broaden my view of different cultures and different companies. I had the opportunity to work and live with people whose values differed from people in my home country. I thought that this would be difficult, but it gave me the chance to reflect on my own values and assess if they were a result of my home country environment or if they were intrinsically mine. . It taught me a lot about how I see people, how people see me, and how conflict can be resolved in a kind and productive way. The best feedback you get, when delivered constructively, is the most critical because it really feeds into how you lead. Iââ¬â¢ve completely reversed my leadership styleââ¬âthe result is so much richer and more powerful when you lead from behind and lead with strength. . Studying in tandem with working, whilst challenging, gave me the perfect platform to directly apply learning concepts into my business environment, the competitive landscape, and the real-estate industry as a whole. When I started the program, I was very happy in my corporate role. But my courage and aspirations grew to the point that I took on a whole new direction. Having my career coach, Joanna, as a sounding board allowed me to really be strategic and get to know myself. She coached me thro ugh all the interviews, the research, and the questions. It went in parallel with what I was doing academically and after six months everything just clicked. . I went into the EMBA knowing I had nothing to lose and Iââ¬â¢ve come out with everything. Great strength, global friends, amazing learning, mentors from professors, a job I love, and the knowledge that I can set my mind to achieve anything and with the right support and resources Iââ¬â¢ll get there.â⬠. I knew that Iââ¬â¢d have likely stayed in my neighborhood for years to come if I didnââ¬â¢t take this opportunity. Iââ¬â¢d not lived or studied outside of the U.S. before. So I left my job as a global strategist at an advertising agency and moved halfway around the world. Iââ¬â¢ve come back a more culturally aware, well-versed person. Iââ¬â¢ve realized that everything is a learning experience and an opportunity for growth. Ill definitely carry this mindset with me into the future. Technology and social media allow us to be different people in several places at once. Im excited to see how I can establish myself in whatever city Ill be lucky enough to call home and still maintain deep connections with people all over the world. Iââ¬â¢m inspired by my classmates every day. Hearing some of their life stories and how getting this degree fits into their greater mission has been very humbling. My biggest challenge has been finding the ââ¬Ërightââ¬â¢ path for me. There have been rooms Ive felt like I shouldnt be in, but now Im proud to feel as though I truly belong, wherever I am.â⬠.
